Baked cheese cake@Komugi, Paradigm Mall

The recent rave and dessert craze in Klang Valley, Komugi bakery, Jap origin.

I must say the decor of the bakery, the signages, and the display of their daily bakes do make you want to try every single item, I refrained from listening to my evil gluttony voice and decided to try out their signature seller, the baked hanjuku cheese cake.

From the enlarged displayed image on the poster to holding this wrapped piece of cake on my hand.... wow. Major difference.

Each piece cost RM 3.50.

Gone in 2 controlled mouthfuls. @_@ (could have gone in 1!)

I gotta say the cheesecake was definitely much smoother and softer than most cheesecakes in town, but after eating the cake in Cheesecake factory, that became the benchmark.

Will get the rest of their bestsellers a try on my next visit here.

P/S: I found them being really thoughtful to give tiny pamphlets that teach you how to heat up your tapao-ed bread properly to enjoy them optimally.

Late supper/post mortem@Gastro Sentral, Le Meridian Kuala Lumpur

This cfter a long and hard day at work, i can finally rest my mind and tummy for a late meal. Lucky for me Gastro's kitchen closes late so I was able to grab my dinner there (1045 pm). Surprisingly, the place was packed with patrons, mostly executives, having drinks. Being hypoglycaemic, all I could think of was something sweet.

Hence, the chocolate brownie order! RM 20. The portion was big, the size of an average pal share with 3-4 dessert lovers. Brownie was rather soft and gooey, with huge chunks of macadamia. Pretty good I must say, but I'd still prefer my brownies brown. Somehow it lacks the ooomph and kick when it is white chocolate instead.
The hot chocolate was yums! Thickened and not too sweet..with a hint of bitterness at the end palate. I could taste that they did melt the chocolate rather than fully powdered form. A good choice for a late meal with the intention to crash in bed later. RM 20.

This crunchy sandwich had the Gastro logo stamped next to it signifying its popularity. I decided to give it a try and boy oh boy, the portion was huge. But huge in the sense the bread was very thick but the ham portion was average. The bread was abit too thick for my liking as it was actually difficult to eat like a real sandwich and instead i only ate half the sandwich slice which was also difficult as the bread was rather hard. Average for my liking. RM 25.

Alas, the live music and decor does make the whole place a great one to hang out with friends and colleagues. I was infatuated by the colourful light bulbs placed on each table. So pwettyyyyyyy.

I'm not sure when will it be my next visit here, probably in a LONG LONG while and I hope by then perhaps the food will impress me more :)

Best cheesecake Ive ever had@New York Cheesecake Factory, Seoul

We were aimlessly walking around the Gyungmyeong area after arriving back at Seoul from Yeojoo. This summer retreat was truly blessed, heartfelt with tearful prayers and humbling for me.

Before I left, this shop was still under renovation. Amazingly after 5 days the shop is now opened.

The beautifully displayed cakes decorated with such refined and delicate touches, I could not resist trying the cake, despite the pricey tag (one slice is 5500 won, 15 RM!)

And I was glad I followed my hunch.

By far the best cheesecake I ever had.

The cheese was so soft every mouthful of it just melted into my mouth. The biscuit base layer was also just nice, soft and evenly ground. Definitely the proportion of butter and biscuits was perfection.

One of my friends, a japanese, says the best cheesecake in Malaysia still goes to Secret Recipe's and I overpromised him that this slice was 100 times better.

The verdict given by him was not 100 haha..but 80 at least! Victory!

Ex PM Channel chatters@Tong Pak Fu, Subang SS15

One of those impromptu moments where the volcano of tolerance erupted and all gather to cool down over chatters and ice.
This was my first time trying out the shaved ice from famous TPF. I gotta say... it wasnt as special in term of everything: taste, price, environment... as the ones I had from Kai's shop called Slice, in Far East Plaza, Singapore.
The best flavour was the sesame one, thickened and strong aroma. The rest were....so so.
Oh well the session was not about the ice but about the chatters. It was a great 2 hour session catching up with one another's work and life.
Where shall the next round be, guys?

Green tea overdose@streets of Kyoto

The city is filled with all things green tea. Green tea cakes, green tea biscuits, green tea ice cream, green tea bread, green tea mochi, green tea chocolates etc. This crazed fame is likelyhood induced by tourists as we had meals in several old skool japanese restaurants and they do not serve hot oocha. They have oolong instead. Hmmm?

Anyway since we were foreigners in this land, we joined in the crazed fame of trying all things green.

Green tea cream puff was yums! The puff was made of cinammon and do not be fooled by the big puff. In fact it is very hollow in the middle and filled with creamy fully green tea custard cream. They were so generous with the cream that one bite, the cream just oozes out.

A puff you don't wanna eat in front of your cute first date.

Another rolled layer cake but mixed with a butter flavoured layer in the middle. This wa average, no where near the Fa Baum's green tea cake.

More green tea stuffs to come... Green with Happy Envy!

Greentea layer bliss@Fu Baum, Kyoto

I was recently at Kyoto for a meeting and this city proved to be a city of gastromonic adventure as well!

Came across this shop by chance and the baker was in action at the front side of the bakery. The cake batter was rolled on a long thick metal roller pin and baked to yummy perfection.

There are two flavours, butter or green tea. I chose the green tea.

Each layer falls off nicely with each bite and you can taste the sweetened thin sugared coating which holds the layers together. Skillful!

The bitter after taste of the green tea leaf lingers in your mouth after eating.

Each cake cost 1155Yen. Pretty pricey but it was all worth it knowing I might not eat this ever again. A must try in Kyoto!

A girl's wish come true@Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara

I am glad having given the opportunity to witness the holy matrimony of my colleague, SJ.
It was my first time attending an event in this convention centre. The rooftop venue was an excellent choice for a luncheon. The sunnie rays shone through the glass windows creating a warm atmosphere and the hall was beautifully decorated with the pastel theme colours.
The happy bride SJ was beaming with joy and gladness and the husband was filled with smiles. What a blessed day, Amen!
The wide array of pastries and desserts really got me excited just looking at them beautifully displayed. The downside of all these desserts are that they're served in tiny portions and you forget that you actually ate alot already.
I think I took 4 spoons and 2 bowls of pastries and... 2 cupcakes.. 1 stolen for later consumption in the car. -_____-
I had 1 more cupcake.. during the wedding reception at night. Oh mamama.........

Ok, time to sleep *burp*. A healthy diet indeed, cream and sugar and straight to bed.

Late night dessert@Tom's

On my first trip to Kuching years ago, an old friend brought me here to try out their cakes. Widely known among localites here. I vaguely remembered my dining experience was quite good then.
Since my hotel is nearby Tom's during this recent trip to Kuching, I brought my friends to pay a visit for desserts.
The restaurant was less crowded than how I remembered it was years ago. In fact we were first to walk in at 9 pm.
We ordered a tiramisu and strawberry shortcake, both recommended by the waitress, apparently Tom's signature cakes.
The tiramisu had a strong taste of kinder bueno, not bad, but a little hard.
The strawberry shortcake on the other hand was rather ordinary. Maybe I've eaten the best which was Patisserie Rui's...hmmm..
In fact for the size and quality, I actually found them rather expensive! Total for 2 cakes were RM 29.
I think this would probably be my last visit here.... sorry, my dear Tom's.
Taste is subjective, it is not my cup of tea now. :)

Wok n Pan@Melaka Raya

Wok n Pan is widely known amongst local Melaccans and outsiders for western food especially babi porky ones.

The decor of the restaurant is rather simple but filled with patrons, even when I arrived at 9 pm. I googled up reviews on this place and many recommend trying WnP's pork ribs and pork chop.

I gotta hand it to the chefs grilling the ribs... they were super tender, nicely char grilled and served with a generous portion too. Delicious!  RM 23 ish, if I recalled correctly.

However...those ribs cannot be the champion, Hurricanes Grill in Sydney. Nevertheless, this was a thumbs up for me!

The pork chop was very tender too, just the right amount of fattyness to melt, forming a coat of shiny layer on the meat and locking in oungent sweet meaty porky aroma. RM 20 plus too.

I would definitely want to come back again for pork ribs round 2! Can't wait!

But right before the meaty session... we popped by Nadeje for a slice of crepe cake. RM 10 per slice. The cream in between those thinly sliced crepe layers were light, fluffy and not too sweet, making every bite fulfilling.. yummzzzz..but the best cream pastries to me, still belonged to Patisserie Rui's swiss rolls!

Indulging Saturday brunches

When I ran out of space to post at Tummies Growl, was a time I switched jobs and the first few months of work were hectic beyond words.

I do realise I take less pictures of foodies and somehow, makan sessions just aren't the same without eat-post TGWG...

Time to walk back to the right path of foodventuras!

Let the first post be on a glorious Saturday brunch!

All-day-scrumptous breakfast at Coffee Bean MK. It's healthy as nothing is deep fried in it. Reason for the extra-healthy choice on my usual overindulging Saturdays is because of.....

Patisserie Rui's amazing swiss rolls!

Gotta have meal-to-meal calorie balance. Eat more there eat less here.

It delivers the same happy effects as Village Park's nasi lemak lol.
The best swiss roll ever!
For cake and cream lovers, this is a must-try and do go early to buy as they are usually sold out by noon.
